Purpose

The most important meeting for the ecclesia is the memorial meeting. So what is it all about?
Every Sunday morning at 11:00 am we meet in our hall to remember Jesus. We call this the memorial meeting. A memorial is a way of reminding yourself of a person or event. We remind ourselves that Jesus had great love for God and we likewise should love God in all aspects of our life. Jesus also loved us - He loved us so much that he died on a cross to demonstrate this. So we attend this meeting in memory of Jesus and the sacrifice he made on our behalf.

We hold the memorial meeting on Sunday because it was on the first day of the week that the disciples in the first century came together to break bread.

On the first day of the week we came together to break bread. Acts Ch.20:7

It was the focal point in the first century, and remains so today.

Bread and wine reminds us of Jesus

During the meeting we sing hymns to worship God. We also pray to Him, and read from the Bible. We consider a message intended to focus our minds on the sacrifice made by Jesus.

At the memorial meeting baptised believers eat a small portion of bread and drink a small amount of wine. This was the last meal that Jesus had before he was crucified. He ate bread and wine with his friends, and asked his followers to do this regularly. We eat and drink to remember him.
